Exchange 2007 user policies..."Retention Hold" in combination with "Deleted Items Retension" policy?
I have situation in our exchange 2007 environment with polices where I am not sure about the implications. Here is what I have for a policy for a particular user... USER 10 MailBox Settings Messaging Records Management Managed Folder Policy = Company Policy 1(Deleted Items are kept for 22 days) Enable Retention hold for items in this mailbox = Start Date 1/1/2007 to End Date 1/1/2050 Storage Quotas Deleted Item Retention = 300 days MailStore Limits Deletion Settings Keep deleted Items for days = 7 Now that I have given you the setup, I want to know if the Enable Retention hold for items in this mailbox setting will take precedence over ALL other settings I have set in the system, especially the Deleted Item Retention setting for USER 10. My goal is to set thisupfor USER 10 onlysuch that his mailbox items (Calendar, Deleted items, Archives, etc...I mean everything!) are never deleted from his mailbox. All other users in the company should be using the Company Policy 1and the global settings I have set up on the Mailstore. Thanks for any help on this one. Capt.

Hi Capt, About MRM & MRM Policy As you selected Enable retention hold for items in this mailbox so retention settings should not be applied to the recipient's mailbox during that period. Reference: Recipient Properties > Mailbox Settings Tab > Messaging Records Management About deleted item retention since you set it at individual mailbox level 300 days which overrides mailbox store configuration and if User 10deletes any item thenit can be recovered till 300 days. Reference: Mailbox User Properties > Mailbox Settings Tab > Storage Quotas

Amit, Thanks for your help. It might be more clear for me how all these plocies work together if you can provide me an example. The URL's you sent are good in the sense they tell you the defintion but but they do not show the results of a "What if" situation. In my example, I need to know if for USER 10 if I have the "Enable Retention hold for items in this mailbox = Start Date 1/1/2007 to End Date 1/1/2050" set for "2050" does this setting trump all settings I detailed in the previous email? This means, that USER 10's mailbox will hold all items and if he deletes them as well it will still hold them until 2050 as this is what I need to know. Again, my goal is to have anything regarding USER 10 mailbox regardless of what he deletes to stay in the Exchange mailbox system until the year 2050. Thansk for your help. Capt.
